Only qualified health professionals can legally use these titles and are accountable to their Provincial Regulatory Body for their professional conduct and the care they provide. They are committed to public protection. In BC, the legislation distinguish between Nutritionists and Registered Dietitians. Dietitians are regulated under the Health Professions Act, Dietitians Regulation and CDBC Bylaws. The title of "Nutritionist" is not a reserved title in BC. A dietitian is your smart choice for credible advice on healthy eating. Registered Holistic Nutritionists are not educated to the same standards as Registered Dietitians and are not regulated under the Health Professions Act.
Dietitians are ONE OF A KIND; they have the distinct ability to translate the complex science of nutrition into practical solutions for you on healthy eating and disease prevention and treatment. Whether you are trying to manage a medical condition with a special diet, control your weight, or interpret nutrition facts on food labels, or simply making lifestyle changes to eat healthy, a registered dietitian can help. Dietitians can help you to set realistic nutrition goals to improve and maintain your health by making your nutrition counselling experience unique based on your individual goals considering your medical & family history, your lifestyle and preferences.
The first session is a one hour initial assessment. In this session, the dietitian collects information such as your medical, social and diet history to help you initiate realistic goal settings. Based on the set goals you may or may not need a follow up session. Follow up sessions are there to evaluate your progress, adjust your goals or simply to find support and resolutions to questions and challenges as you step into the path of life style change towards perfect health.
